iPhone? What is all this buzz about it?

Article written by Jeeremie

What do I think about the iPhone/iPod Touch? I think it is awesome! No, really! I am not the kind of guy who like to play with toys but then my wife bought an iPod Touch to store her music and I got addicted. Design is sleek, touch screen is smooth, and UI is very intuitive. It is very fun to surf the internet with it. Of course, the iPhone is not meant to replace a laptop or PC but it is a good alternative when on the road or just to check your mails, read feeds or news.

We ve seen a lot of smartphones emerging during the last couple of months. Of course, the iPhone was the first one on the market, but then the t-mobile G1 and the Pre Palm arrived and demonstrated they could be a serious competitor to the iPhone.

According to analysts, almost everyone will possess a smartphone by 2020 and we can easily imagine free Wi-Fi will be everywhere (and not only in Starbucks!). This means that many people will view our sites on a smartphone and this is something to keep in mind when we will design our next website if we don t want to be left behind.

But let me introduce you WPtouch

Luckily, some people at BraveNewCode.com already thought about it and created WPtouch, a WordPress plugin to turn your blog into an iPhone application-like within a few minutes.

WPtouch automatically transforms your WordPress blog into an iPhone application-like experience when viewed from an iPhone or iPod touch. It comes complete with ajax & effects, and all the standard WordPress blog features: search, login, categories, tags, archives, photos & more. WPtouch also allows for near-complete customization through your WordPress admin.

What a great idea and time-saving for designers! The guys at BraveNewCode really did a great job. Chapeau messieurs!

iBBDemo - Blackbaud iPhone Browser Simulator

If you are going to design for the iPhone, most probably you will need to test your site during the development phase. But what, if you don t have an iPhone or iPod Touch to do so? Don t worry! Again, some people thought about it and created iBBDemo, an iPhone Browser simulator to preview your site from your computer. You will have to previously download Safari 3.2+ in order to run iBBDemo.

iBBDemo can be downloaded here and you can watch a screencast here.

Well, I hope you find this information useful. Please, feel free to share your thoughts about the iPhone and smartphones in general or leave a comment if you know another interesting iPhone application.

Heres the coolest thing I found yet to do with my iphone- you might find this site to be simply mind blowing- I am currently watching streams on my iPhone or desktop with unlimited access to more than 200 TV series - complete seasons (yup every episode every season!) using a site called http://3click.tv so far as long as my wifi signal is strong I have 25000 episodes in my pocket:) Work anywhere in the world.
